  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Casemiro is one of United's top earners but is effectively now bottom of the central midfield pecking list, behind Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte, Christian Eriksen and Toby Collyer, the latter starting ahead of the Brazilian against FCSB on Thursday night. The five-time Champions League winner was formerly a favourite with Erik ten Hag, but has found Ruben Amorim looking in other directions. Casemiro has been an unused substitute in eight of the club's last ten Premier League games. He is yet to complete 90 minutes under Amorim in any competition and has started just two of the 18 matches the Portuguese tactician has been in charge of. It feels like a waste of limited resources to keep him when the money being spent on wages could be reinvested.

  • WHAT RUBEN AMORIM SAID

Recently explaining his preference for other players over Casemiro, Amorim said: "I have to choose the player with characteristics that I see [for] the game. It's just that."

    WHAT NEXT?
